With the advent of giclee, (pronounced gee-clay) the art of fine printing has become even more precise. Because no screens are used, the prints have the highest apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like serigraphy. In the giclee process, a fine stream of ink- more than four million droplets per second- is sprayed onto a specially treated canvas. The effect is similar to an airbrush technique but much finer. Each piece is carefully hand-mounted onto a drum which rotates during printing. Exact calculations of hue, value and density direct the ink of 6 to 7 nozzles. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes, (with over 3 million color possibilities) of saturated, nontoxic waterbased ink. The artist's color approval and input are essential for creating the final custom setting for the edition. These are very constly to produce hence the limited number of any giclee ever put into production. This Ross art is insanely beautiful.

"The Origin of the Silver Surfer!" Issue featured cameos by the Incredible Hulk, Doctor Doom, and the Fantastic Four and was written by Stan Lee with art and cover by John Buscema and Joe Sinnott. Many years ago, in order to prevent the total annihilation of his civilization and homeworld, Norrin Radd bargained with the Devourer of Worlds. Imbued with the Power Cosmic, he became the Silver Surfer and Herald of Galactus. JOHN BUSCEMA was one of the classic Marvel artists of the 1960s and 1970s. A member of the Comic Book Hall of Fame, he contributed art to The Avengers, Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four, Thor and over 200 stories of Conan the Barbarian. This painting, one of the best-loved and most iconic covers in Marvel history, was originally created for SILVER SURFER #1, published in July, 1968.
