Marvel Comics is home to the most popular comic book characters of all time, including Spider-Man The Fantastic Four, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, and Iron Man.
For over 70 years Marvel has created a dynamic universe in which their many super heroes and super villains co-exist, intersect and do battle for good and evil. Marvel - unlike any comic book world before or since - became a world where super heroes were tortured outcasts, had financial and romantic problems, suffered from all-too human insecurities and yet rose above these conflicts to perform deeds of great nobility.
In addition to the legacy of fantastic storytelling, Marvel has attracted the very best illustrators working in the comic fields. The dynamic and inspirational art found in the Marvel Universe is reflected in this exclusive Marvel ArtWorks series of fine art reproductions.
This artwork is a limited edition giclee print on canvas.
With the advent of giclee, (pronounced gee-clay) the art of fine printing has become even more precise. Because no screens are used, the prints have the highest apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like serigraphy. In the giclee process, a fine stream of ink- more than four million droplets per second- is sprayed onto a specially treated canvas. The effect is similar to an airbrush technique but much finer. Each piece is carefully hand-mounted onto a drum which rotates during printing. Exact calculations of hue, value and density direct the ink of 6 to 7 nozzles. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes, (with over 3 million color possibilities) of saturated, nontoxic waterbased ink. The artist's color approval and input are essential for creating the final custom setting for the edition. These are very costly to produce hence the limited number of any giclee ever put into production.
Spider-Man is a fictional character, a comic book superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko, he first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962). Lee and Ditko conceived the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and as a teenager, having to deal with the normal struggles of adolescence in addition to those of a costumed crimefighter. Spider-Man's creators gave him super strength and agility, the ability to cling to most surfaces, shoot spider-webs using wrist-mounted devices of his own invention which he called "web-shooters", and react to danger quickly with his "spider-sense", enabling him to combat his foes.
